The project
This project was for a studio subject, DECO2200, in my second year studying a Bachelor of Design (Interaction Design). The provided design brief was very broad, we were tasked to follow an iterative design process to research, ideate, prototype and evaluate a design solution for a chosen problem scenario that aligns with any one of the problem areas given below:
1) Cultural Harmony & Valuing
2) Lifestyle, Leisure & Entertainment
3) Crowdsourcing

The criteria for success was a digital design solution that:
- includes at least one visual, screen-based component,
- includes social interactions between users / stakeholders and,
- includes multi-modal AND/OR omni-channel interactions (i.e., interactions across devices / platforms)

Problem Scenario:
The problem area chosen by my team was Lifestyle, Leisure & Entertainment with the focus under Lifestyle on Productivity and Healthy Habits. With a growing trend of low attention spans (Hayes, 2023), young adults are struggling to establish consistent healthy habits, and remain productive. We have found that this problem disproportionality affects young adults, with the cause being largely tied to an overexposure to social media and smartphone addiction (Carstens et al, 2018) (Duke & Montag, 2017). By establishing consistent, productive habits, the cycle of poor productivity can be broken, as individuals are found to be most productive when faced with consistent challenges – big or small (Simonsen, 2020).

Research Aim: “To understand how self-tracking apps can be better suited for young adults, in order to address the demographic's specific needs regarding productivity.”

Project Aim: “To discover the most effective ways to implement personalised, engaging and manageablehabit tracking solutions through a digital medium”

Take a look at the visual report
For this university project a detailed report was created going through the entire project from start to finish, as I work on adding this to my portfolio I highly recommend you download the pdf file and have a look! There is a lot of great work in there ;)
The report is separated into 6 sections with the page numbers outlined, with sections Introduction, Concept Development, Testing & Iterating, Final Production, Reflection and Appendix. As the reflection section is quite personal and includes private details this has been removed from the PDF
Download the file below or keep scroling for a quick snippet of the project!
